                                                  Hi, my name is Ross,                                                           

I did not survive the brain disorder that I somehow acquired.  My brain disorder was called Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease.  I had the rarest form called Sporadic Fatal Insomnia.  This could not be diagnosed until after I had suffered three years of diminishing physical symptoms (all neurological due to the deterioration of my brain) and my brain was donated to University of Michigan Brain Bank for study.

My disorder is just one of many that is being studied by the researchers at the University of Michigan.  The doctors who worked with me the most were in the Ataxia Clinic.  Brain research saves lives and  leads to drug therapies to improve quality of life for those who suffer, not only of CJD, but ALS, MS, Alzheimer’s Disease, BiPolar disorder, Ataxia, Parkinson’s Disease, Kennedy’s Disease.

My family and friends were motivated by hope to raise funding for research and so created the ROSS WHITNEY JACOBS FOUNDATION, a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization.  Research means money.    The purpose of the FOUNDATION is to find more sources of funding for that research.  Most of us know someone who suffers, maybe not as I did, but with one of the other disorders listed.  The hope of my friends, family and the Foundation is that we can “move the needle” on raising awareness and funding in order to make a difference.
